Excellence in artistry MissionThe Classical Music Consortium of Austin is a membership and service organization. It was founded in 1997 to promote professional-quality classical choral and chamber music in the Austin area, and to provide a forum for mutual support of small and mid-sized classical music performance organizations through cooperative scheduling, collaborative publicity, and sharing of expertise and experience. Each member organization is deeply committed to the highest standard of music making, presenting both traditional and innovative programming. The excellence and artistry of these ensembles contribute significantly to the rich musical community that makes Austin so unique. Services and ActivitiesThe Consortium’s various forms of cooperative publicity include this web site; a printed concert calendar produced three times a year and distributed free at members’ concerts and various public location; and cooperative advertising in other publications. The Consortium meets monthly during the September-May performing season. Guest speakers are frequently invited to educate members on artistic and administrative subjects of mutual interest. Early each calendar year, member organizations compare their planned performance schedules for the following season and work together to avoid conflicts that would prevent interested audiences from seeing the concerts of their choice. MembershipCMCA member groups are choral and chamber music organizations that perform predominantly classical repertoire at a professional level of artistic quality and present a full concert season each year. The first Monday in January is the annual application deadline and decisions about new members are made once a year in March. More information about membership eligibility and application is available from the CMCA executive director. While formal membership is presently limited to music organizations, interested individuals are welcome to attend meetings and to assist CMCA as volunteers. Contact CMCA for more information.
